FWAFA-isms and Acronyms

 

FWAFA-isms and Acronyms:
$5 Free Dress = themed dress days hosted by the different school clubs at various times through out the year. Bring $5 that day to be able to dress in the theme of the day and not have to wear your uniform. Free Dress MUST still cover what the uniform covers and follow the dress code rules.
Academy Singers = High School Co-ed Choir, auditioned only
ADC = Academy Dance Company
ADCT = Academy Dance Company Trainees; for auditioned dancers grades 7 & 8
Advanced Acting = For auditioned theatre students grade 12
AMTC = Academy Musical Theatre Company
Art Shows = There are many art shows throughout the year in the Gallery (located in the front of the school). Watch the Principal Newsletter for info.
ASLHS = American Sign Language Honor Society; is an organization that recognizes students who excel in ASL and all studies in high school. This is for 9th-12th graders.
Blue Bins = these are large blue bins located in the south corner of our parking lot. These are for donating shoes, NON-UNIFORM clothing, bags, books and toys to the World Wear Project. The PTSO earns a percentage of profit of what gets collected.
CCT = Children's Choir of Texas ; this choir is audition only for 5th and 6th graders who wish to be in s more advanced performance choir.
Company II = Company II is for auditioned dancers grades 7-12
Dances = For grades 7-12, sponsored by grades 10-12.
Doo Dahs & Boo Bash = After-school party for grades 3 - 6! Activities, food, and fun! Sponsored by grades 10-12.
Dot Day = is a $5 Free Dress Day hosted by the art department. Students are encouraged to wear dots.
Duck Day = is a $5 Free Dress Day hosted by the Thespian and Jr Thespian honor societies. Students are encouraged to dress in a "duck themed outfit".
FWAFA = Pronounced FWAH-FUH, Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts
FWAFA Talent Show = Hosted by the Junior class; open auditions for grades 3-12.
Faculty Talent Show = Your teachers share their many talents beyond the classroom!
Half - Day = this is a day that the students get out of school early. 3rd-4th grade is released at 12. 5th-12th are released at 12:15.
Jr Co = Junior Company is for auditioned dancers grades 4-6
Jr Thespians = The International Jr Thespian Society is an honor society for middle school theatre students.
KTOS = Kids Take Over The School ; biggest fundraiser for PTSO. Students bid for an opportunity to become teachers or staff members for a day which helps raise funds for FWAFA programs.
Literary Character/ Work of Art Day= Your student can dress up as a character from their favorite book, or they can also dress up as a work of art or a visual artist as well. Students must be able to explain who they are when asked. No masks and costumes must cover that the uniform covers.
Lost and Found = lost and found is located inside of the building at the back doors. Items in the lost and found will only be kept for 2 WEEKS. Non-uniform Items not claimed within 2 weeks will be trashed or donated to the blue bins. Uniform pieces will be donated to the PTSO Resale.
NAHS = National Art Honor Society;
NHS = National Honors Society ; More than just an honor roll, NHS is an academic honor society that consists of high school students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
NHSDA = National Honor Society for Dance Arts For 10th-12th grade dancers
NJHS = National Jr Honor Society; More than just an honor roll, NJHS is an academic honor society that consists of middle school students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
PTSO = FWAFA's amazing Parent Teacher Student Organization; this is a group compiled of amazing parent teacher and student volunteers that help bring fun and excitement to our campus while also raising money for our incredible school! They are the cheerleaders for our school and the magician's assistants!
Resale = an event sponsored by the PTSO where you can donate or purchase gently used uniform pieces. Resales happen 3 times a year but pieces can be donated all year long.
Scholastic Book Fair = oh, c'mon, you already know this one! I bet you got excited just reading this one! Books, pencils, posters . . . You're already excited, aren't you?! There's no thrill like scholastic book fair thrill!
Senior Events = Senior Campout, Senior Sunrise, Capstones, Senior Clap Out, Senior Showcase & Graduation
SGT = Singing Girls of Texas; is a professional-level, young women’s choir program with three core ensembles and two community choirs. SGT Training, SGT Chamber Choir, and SGT Tour.
SGT Chamber Choir = is for students who wish to continue their choir training, but are also interested in other artistic disciplines
SGT Tour = students can audition for SGT Tour Choir beginning in 9th grade; the Tour Choir is an advanced performance-based ensemble that gives high-quality concerts in regional, national, and international tours.
SGT Training = students can audition for SGT Training beginning in 7th grade
StuCo = Student Council abbreviation (please refer to the Student Council definition)
Student Council = elected members of each grade level to represent their respective grade levels in planning of school wide student events.
TBC = Texas Boys Choir ; this is a performance choir for young men in grades 3-12 who possess musical ability and a love of music
TCA+A = Texas Center for Arts (plus) Academics
TeSA = Texas elementary School of the Arts
Thespians = The International Thespian Society is an honor society for high school theatre students.
The Circle/ The Neighborhood = The Circle is in the basement of the first floor. Middle School and 6th grade academic classes, all theatre classes, languages, and health classes are found here.
The Green/ Green Space = this is the grassy space located at the north end of the school.
TriM = Music Honor Society Music honor society for grades 9-12 for any type of musician;
Vending Machine Doors = these are the doors located on the East side of the school in the "back" of the building. (We do not have vending machines near that door any longer, but it is still referred to as the vending machine doors.)

MAPS = Measure of Academic Progress
MOY = Middle of Year
STAAR = State of Texas Assessments
of Academic Readiness
TELPAS = Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System
